I was tagged for this meme by Nymeth. It’s about reading; how could I refuse?
Do you remember how you developed a love for reading?
My parents read to me and my brother when we were little, but I think it is largely part of my nature. I preferred (and still prefer) reading to almost every other solitary activity.
What are some books you read as a child?
I loved Roald Dahl: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, James and the Giant Peach, and The BFG were my favorites. I also read everything by Judy Blume and Beverly Cleary. I loved series too: The Babysitters Club, Sweet Valley High, The Boxcar Children, and The Saddle Club. Charlotte’s Web and Anne of Green Gables were also high on my favorite’s list.
What is your favorite genre?
Probably literary fiction. I’ll read most any genre after a good review, but always wind up back in the literary fiction section. (I also have a bit of a weakness for YA fiction.)
Do you have a favorite novel?
Can anyone ever pick ONE? I love East of Eden, by John Steinbeck, Pride & Prejudice, by Jane Austen, and Harriet the Spy, by Louise Fitzhugh.
Where do you usually read?
EVERYWHERE! Though usually at home on the couch or in bed.
When do you usually read?
At lunch, in the early evenings, in bed before going to sleep, and any other downtime.
Do you usually have more than one book you are reading at a time?
Sort of. I usually only read one novel at a time, but I try to read one poem a day from a collection, and I read at least a chapter a day from the Old Testament.
Do you read nonfiction in a different way or place than you read fiction?
I don’t read a lot of nonfiction, but when I do, I tend to read slower.
Do you buy most of the books you read, or borrow them, or check them out of the library?
I like to buy books, but I’m trying to be better about using the library. My library is extremely well stocked, so I can usually find what I want there. (I don’t borrow books unless absolutely necessary, it makes me nervous.)
Do you keep most of the books you buy? If not, what do you do with them?
I keep them. I can’t seem to get rid of books.
What are you reading now?
The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Diaz
Do you keep a TBR (to be read) list?
Yes, I keep it on goodreads.com. It’s not completely complete, but I’m working on it.
What’s next?
Probably either Emma by Jane Austen or Wicked by Gregory Maguire for the Wind-Up Book Chronicles Challenge.
What books would you like to reread?
Too many to list. :) Peace Like a River, by Leif Enger, and Old School, by Tobias Wolff are the first two that come to mind.
Who are your favorite authors?
Thank you to whoever wrote this meme for making “authors” plural. My favorite authors at the moment are John Steinbeck, Roald Dahl, Jane Austen, Leif Enger, Shannon Hale, Tobias Wolff, Michael Ondaatje, and Ian McEwan.

I have a request. Could you review ‘Brideshead Revisited’ by Evelyn Waugh? I need help understanding it, a Blue Leaf or something…
Thanks for playing! I look forward to your thoughts on Oscar Wao. And also on Wicked. I read it last year and really enjoyed it.
