Lit Flicks Challenge
I’m hosting a challenge!! As I mentioned on Wednesday, I’ll be hosting the February 2009 Bookworms Carnival, and the theme is Literature and Film. February is always a big movie month in my life, culminating in the Oscar telecast and my annual Oscar party. Anyway, as part of the celebration, I thought I’d host a challenge.
RULES
1. Challenge runs from September 1, 2008 to February 28, 2009.
2. Read 5 books that have been made into movies.
3. Then watch at least 2 of the movie adaptations of the works you read.
4. Your list may change at any time and may include overlaps with other challenges.
5. Sign up after you’ve posted about this challenge using Mr. Linky here.
6. Check in around the first of each month to find activities and giveaways for participants.
7. Link to your reviews and posts using the second Mr. Linky here.

This sounds like fun, but I’m not sure I can squeeze it in since I’m doing another reading challenge and have a stack of ARCs. Hmm - maybe when my son goes back to school.
I’m excited!! I’m going to be thinking of what to put on my list.
Like I said, I cannot wait for Blindness to open, in San Francisco, on September 11. I’ll also read Marley and Me, which will open in October.
Oh man! I CAN NOT resist this challenge. One, I love to read. Two, I love to watch movies. I was looking through all the books I’ve reviewed since I started my blog and a LOT of them have been made into movies. And then better yet, I looked at my already existing challenges and already have books that have been made into movies, so PERFECT! I’ll get my list up soon.
I don’t know if I have time for this, but I will think about trying to squeeze it in because it sounds fun. Although I did think of the perfect cheaters list:
HP and Sorcerer’s Stone
HP and Chamber of Secrets
HP and Prizoner of Azkaban
HP and Goblet of Fire
HP and Order of Phoenix
Not high literature or anything, but all books I’ve read and seen the movies for.
If I did this challenge however, I would actually want to read something I haven’t read yet. :)

I know The Ruins by Scott Smith will be one of them. I’m reading that for another challenge and my husband is waiting for me to read it so we can watch the movie together (he just finished reading it).
This will be a great challenge for me. My library is going to be closed Sunday and Monday for the Labor Day weekend and then it will be closed the following 3 day weekend for a local festival. My mom and I will be checking out a lot of DVDs this Saturday and I will look for book titles. I will be probably watching the movie before I read the book! Judy

I am reading “Jane Eyre” next month for the Classics Book Club at 5 minutes for books. They announce the next book at the end of September and if it doesn’t fit the challenge I will find another book to read. Most classics have been made into movies though, so it should be a nice overlap.
I’m going to attempt to read books that had movies win Best Picture. plus a few more. GREAT IDEA FOR A CHALLENGE! I’m also going to include Tale of Devereaux - I forgot about that one.

Since it’s also Kay Francis month on TCM this seems ideally timed for a literary / cinematic challenge. Thanks for hosting it! I have no idea yet what new books I’ll read since I”ve read and seen so many (Jane Austen and Tolstoi, for example) but I’ll come up with some. And I look forward to expounding on movies I thought were excellent (re)tellings of the material. Thanks again!

I would love to do this. I have no idea how this Mr. Linky thing works though. :( Oh the shame! Anyway, hopefully I can figure it out. Coraline should be incredible. I loved the book. I would really like to see someone do “Neverwhere” or “American Gods.” Anyway, great list. I’d love to get involved. :)

Just a quick note to say I’ve decided not to do the challenge. I’ve got too many other books on my tbr shelves. :<)
I just wanted to let you know that I’ve finally realized that I have to join this challenge! Many of the books that my f2f book club plans on reading have movie adaptations, and I think we will watch clips as part of our meetings. But you know I’ll also watch the whole thing before hand! Anyway, I’ll get a post up soon and officially join before long.

I read Skipping Christmas for my first book. This was fun. It is by John Grisham a fairly short easy read. I’m looking forward to watching the movie. The other 4 books I’ll read are posted on my blog.

I was surprised that I’d never read Jack London before. What a great story of a dog in the wilds of Alaska, going from one owner to another until he found Thorndike, a man he truly loved. He performed one feat after another, fighting other dogs, wolves, moose and man until one day he came back to camp and his life changed forever.
So I have read four out of seven of my books and decided to watch movies to all of them. Why not? I am really enjoying this challenge and am looking forward to more!!
