The Mysterious Benedict Society and the Perilous Journey, by Trenton Lee Stewart, is the second installment of the Mysterious Benedict Society series. (I read and loved the first installment.)
The fearsome foursome is reunited for another adventure to save their society’s namesake. Reynie, Sticky, Kate, and Constance are to be reunited for an educational reunion trip with Mr. Benedict, but Mr. Benedict is captured by the terrible Mr. Curtain before they arrive. The children’s vacation thus takes a dangerous turn as they set off to follow Mr. Benedict’s clues in the hopes of saving him.
These characters are great. Though brilliant and brave, they are children and have serious fears and weaknesses. This adventure puts those weaknesses to the test, and it’s fun to watch the children overcome external and internal obstacles. The writing is fun and clear. My only hangup is with the plot. Some of the minor elements just didn’t come together for me. Still, this book was loads of fun and worthy of a read and probably a purchase.

What age group is the target audience of this book. And when you say four out of five stars, does that mean it’s better or worse than: Encyclopedia Brown, The Great Brain, or The Fear Street series.
