Three five-star books this month (and I read them right in a row): Rebecca, Amsterdam, and To Kill a Mockingbird. Lots of excellent four-star reads this month too: The Willoughbys, Run, Midwife of the Blue Ridge, Shimmering Images, and The City of Ember. My pick of the month has to be Rebecca.
Book Club
Rebecca, by Daphne du Maurier – Meeting: 9/25/2008
Everyone loved our selection for this month, Rebecca. We had an extensive discussion ranging from the missing first name of the second Mrs. de Winter to the Electra complex that plays out. The overall consensus was: new (to us) favorite.
The selection for next month is Bleak House, by Charles Dickens.

You go girl!!
Do you write about your book club book here or elsewhere? I ask because I would LOVE to have the chance to *have* to read Bleak House, and only requiring it so I could contribute to a discussion would do it! Le me know!!
Bluestocking – Thanks!
Anne – I haven’t ever done much more than the summary above about my book club. However, I think it’s a lovely idea to have some discussion here on the blog. I’ll plan on hosting a discussion here on October 23, 2008. (Is that enough motivation?)
Wow – you read some great ones this month!
And I’m impressed with your choice of Bleak House. Personally, I loved it (when I read it years ago) but I haven’t heard of many people who read it by choice.
If I recall, that’s the book where I learned the meaning of “spontaneous combustion” (it COULD have been another Dickens book though).
Good lord. You read a lot.
You’re quite busy! I’m impressed you can keep up with all those challenges. I’m having trouble with just one, the new classics challenge (2/6 — I have to the end of the year).
I read three of the books on your list for September and have some others on my TBR.
I took the day off of the film festival today and did a bit of catch up on my blog. I nominated you for an award.
Heather – I, as yet, have no idea what Bleak House is about, but your spontaneous combustion comment has me intrigued.
Blake – This month is a personal record for me, but I think a lot of it has to do with the fact that I went on a two week vacation.
Nicole – I do have trouble keeping up with some of my challenges, but I have a lot of books that will double count. I’m hopeful I can complete them all.
Teddy – It appears that we have very similar tastes. ;) Thanks for the award!
