Today’s meme:
What, in your opinion, is the best book that you haven’t liked? Mind you, I don’t mean your most-hated book–oh, no. I mean the most accomplished, skilled, well-written, impressive book that you just simply didn’t like.
Like, for movies–I can acknowledge that Citizen Kane is a tour de force and is all sorts of wonderful, cinematically speaking, but . . . I just don’t like it. I find it impressive and quite an accomplishment, but it’s not my cup of tea.
So . . . what book (or books) is your Citizen Kane?
For me, the best book that I haven’t liked is Wuthering Heights, by Emily Bronte. As I noted in my review here, I hated and despised this book. Still, I can admit that it is accomplished, skilled, well-written, and impressive. I can see why people love this book; I just couldn’t get past the awful characters and their awful behavior.
What about you?

Wuthering Heights was a bit of a dud for me too, but maybe because it is not my favorite genre, maybe I was too young when I read it. I’m not willing to try again now though!
That’s probably going to be my answer, too.
Hello my twin!!! I feel you on Wuthering Heights. That was a W (Waste of Paper and Ink) for me. I choose Moby Dick, which I absolutely detested.
Many bloggers have reminded me of my least favorite classics. Wuthering Heights (for me) is not a likable book, although it’s well-written. It’s too dark and a bit hysterical. I’m not keen on the violence. For my answer to the BTT, I picked Moby Dick (dreadful) and The Alchemist (fluffy crap).
I agree with you on that dark love story Wuthering Heights.
HELLS YES, I couldn’t agree with you more. Hated, hated, hated this book. I’m not even sure I could say it was well-written because I just didn’t see it. Ah well.
I forced myself to finish Wuthering Heights. I hated it as much at the end as I did half way through. I hate most that it’s thought of as a love story. Obsession isn’t love.
I just love hearing about people’s reactions to classics, I just wonder who really liked it and why when so many don’t. Interesting
