Even though it hasn’t yet been published, at 264 pages I’m counting Midnight Sun as a book read for the year.
So, you probably know the premise. Stephenie Meyer, authoress of the Twilight saga, wrote the first chapter of Twilight from Edward’s perspective as an exercise in character development. From this exercise sprang the idea for Midnight Sun – Twilight told from Edward’s perspective. Meyer initially made that original exercise available on her website and later started drafting the whole book. Unfortunately (or fortunately), one of the drafts was leaked on the internet, apparently ruining the project for her. She then reluctantly released a draft of it online for the fans. It was this that I read.
Now, you might think – Twilight from Edward’s perspective? Sounds boring. It does sound boring, but it isn’t. Not at all. I loved it. It’s cheesy and poorly written – unedited even. But still, this this is the Bella and Edward that enticed me to read 2000 pages. This is how I want to remember them, the Twilight/Midnight Sun Bella and Edward. NOT the Eclipse and Breaking Dawn Bella and Edward. (New Moon falls into a nether-category for me, so I’ll just ignore it here.) Also, seeing things from Edward’s perspective is (a) a refreshing break from Bella’s head and (b) very enlightening. There is no denying that Meyer can tell a story. Sadly, it isn’t finished! It just cuts off. I want more!
In all, I would recommend this to fans of Twilight -not that most of those fans need a recommendation. And I do sincerely hope that it eventually gets published, if only so I can have it sit, matching, next to the rest of the series. (I love that Stephenie Meyer admitted to this motivation for potentially seeking publication – at least before the leak.)

its soo unfair to Stephenie, no insulting to have people saying her writing is cheesy whenever i read the series i am lost in the world and when someone distracts me from the books i wonder where in the world i am your books have knocked me off my feet Stephenie! I cant even put it into WORDS anymore but I was trying to be good Stephenie i haven’t taken a peek at the draft me and my friends Anna and Hannah cant get enough we never did anything so please Stephenie release the book please just for the real Twilight fans here and im not kidding Anna wants to read it to her mom before she dies of cancer, its spread to her brain.

I have read the series a few times now, as well as the posted part of Midnight Sun. I too hope that she completes the book, I am very interested to see how Edward thinks of different events.
I also hope she can find a way to write more books relating to the Cullens and/or the Wolf pack, since they are so intertwined now. Like all the things that can happen with Renesmee!
I have recently became a fan of Stephenie Meyer and the Twilight saga. I haven’t quite finished Breaking Dawn yet, but I’m already addicted to the saga and I think I’m might go crazy if Stephenie doesn’t complete Midnight Sun. I need to read Edward’s version. It’s only fair. So PLEASE Stephenie, finish Midnight Sun!
hi! I just wanted to say that it’s so sad that the book was not published. Though, it’s so cool that we get to see Edward’s side. haha! And I never thought that he is more in love with bella than she is to him! I can understand his position more clearly now.

i really think that she should finish the book i read the draft and the twilight books at least 6 times!!! lol. so i fell in love with the books and the thing that i think every one was thinking was what does edward think of this? the only thing you get to hear is bella and what he says. it would be a nice change if you herd the other side of the story. like people say one side of the story isnt enough you should have both.
I have read all four book and seen the first movie and am first in line to see the second. although i have not the draft because i want to be suprised if it comes out but i dont want to be upset and dissapointed if it doesnt. Stephanie i understand the upset and i know the pressure but take your time if midnight sun is ment to be then it will be in good time. congratlations and good luck
I luv all the books she has wrote I just finished The Host it was GREAT!!! I started the Twilight books and could’nt stop reading I had to have everyone of them I finished all 4 books in just 11 days, It took me a little bit longer on The Host but when you start reading it you can’t put it down either, I hope there will be a sequile to that one also, But PLEASE PLEASE CONTINUE TO WRITE MIDNIGHT SUN!!!! i could’nt stop reading that either, And I can’t wait for it to come out I am crossing my finger’s :-)
I cannot stop reading the books all of them and even The Host, I have read them 4 times and I also have them on my I-Phone, They are great, I hope she continues to write Midnight Sun , fro what I was reading it is going to be Wonderful~!!!!!!!! I cannot wait, I have watched the movie so many times I lost count I cant wait for New Moon to come out on Nov.20th The trailer looks OMG Great!!!!! Cant Wait!!!! Wow…. I didn’t realize that she was even writing another book in Edwards perspective. But I think she should definetly finish it. To show fans “HEY I DON’T CARE THAT IT GOT OUT I AM STILL GOING TO FINISH FOR MY FANS AND MAKE A GREAT COMEBACK” I am POSITIVE that the book will still sell like crazy. I for one an a HUGE fan of Stephanie Meyer books. But I Love the Twilight books. It captures romance,danger,and many other interesting traits that readers want to read about. …did you know Robert Pattinson nearly didnt get the part of Edward Cullen in the film Twilight that Gerard Wane(not sure how you spell his name)nearlly got the part Gerard wane is from a rock band called MCR(My Chemical Romance) but they thought he would have trouble playing a 17 year old i think the books are better obviously but you have 2 admit that the film was absolutely awesome wasent it anyone whos seen come on give me a show of hands!!! one…two…three…four…five… … … … … … … … … one million!!!

im not gonna sign the petition it should be finished on her terms it is her story to tell!!! She should do it of her own free will!!! I know everyone wants the next book to hurry up but still give the women her space let her do it in her own time or she may not do it at all!!!!! Please just leave her be thats all she asked for if it wasnt for her the story wouldnt have been told in the first place let her finish it on her own terms!!!!

she only stopped writing it because she was hurt that someone posted it online illegally which is basically stealing! that person ruined it for all of us! who knows how long it will take before she decides to start writing it again. but i realy really hope she will because i went to her site and read the first chapter and IM IN LOVE! (with the book) i think edwards version of twilight is a brilliant idea! your the best stephenie! i wish you will change your mind about not writing it anymore.

I think that if Stephenie is pressured into finishing Midnight Sun she will not be able to do as well as she could with it. It would be a rushed version that would not make anyone happy. We should just leave her be and let her finish it on her own time. Finished in a few years or more is always better than finished now but sloppily.
Personally, I would like to see a sequel to The Host. I love the story!! She left the ending open so I’m crossing my fingers ^_^
i love twilight ive read all the books 11 times through ive read mid night sun patial draft like 4 times and i have watched the movie 43 times no joke my walls are covered in posters and i love it!! i cant wait for new moon to come out in theaters in 2 months!! ahhhh i love it i own all the t-shirts and the soundtrack

I know we all agree that Meyer needs to commit herself to finishing Midnight Sun. But, seriously, this book would definitely be the best! Its not just HIS point of view, it everyones! (except Bella, but of course we know that side of the story)… all those glances and remarks between the Cullens that Bella didn’t understand… I want to understand them! ….the true thoughts of her seemingly goodhearted friends…. the absurd convolutedness of the way Edward has to learn about Bella’s inner character… even the fact that Angela switched boyfriends from Eric to Ben, it all ends up making sense! When I compared the two POVs, I admired Bellas character more… she really was perceptive! And I know I heard that she was only planning to rewrite the first book of the Twilight saga from his POV, but I’m curious… what DID he do during New Moon? and how in the world could he not KNOW… before he saw in Sam’s mind of course… how Bella ended up the night he left her? Now, that would be an interesting read….Also, his voice is much more mature (of course) and a much bigger to challenge to write, drawing fans in even more!
I agree, Kay Trammell, with both comments. (Although I definitely could not resist reading the draft after I heard it was available online) The Host was a good read, yet not as captivating as Twilight. There were so many questions though, and I found that the questions were a petulant peeve… I couldn’t stop thinking about how the questions.. and any offered answer just didn’t make sense…. how in the world could these two species live in peace? (I am happy, of course, that Wanderer is happy) I guess impossible relationships are a reoccuring theme… predator and prey… parasite and host

I am really sorry about the incident with the illegal posting of your Midnight Sun copy. Those people just want you to stop writing. Dont listen to them, keep writing, isnt writing your life? btw, i am only 12, but, i want to be a writer when i am older. you are my inspiration, and dont stop now. you are the most fantastic author i have ever layed eyes on, and your books are awesome. This is really frustrating. I wanted to wait until the book came out, but after she gave up and said that she was putting it on hold indefinitely, a finally decided to read it from her website. It bothers me to be teased by something like this. How can she not know how much this bothers everyone, or does she even care? Yes, what was done to her was wrong. I would be ticked off, too. However, all of her fans have supported her so much. Does she honestly not think that we would support her just as much on Midnight Sun? I would have never read it on another website out of courtesy, but now it sounds like she is just giving up. For everyone who has gotten behind this series and supported her, it seems like she would do this for her fans. I wonder if she has any idea how much everyone wants her to finish the book, or if she even cares. Maybe, considering her anger and frustration, she has decided to punish everyone for what a certain person did. Like I said, I can’t blame her for being upset, but I can’t keep myself from wishing that she would see the other side.
And I want to say that I definitely agree with Carroll. I would absolutely love to see the entire saga from Edward’s perspective. How can she not see the potential in that? I wish so much that she would read everyone’s feelings and that maybe it would influence her to continue, if she hasn’t forgotten all of us fans entirely.
