Read-a-Thon: Kick-Off

October 18, 2008

in Book Events

Okay, it’s 6:00 a.m. here in Utah. Let the read-a-thon begin! (Disclosure: I wrote this post last night, so I didn’t have to get up and type. I’m going to stay in bed and read.)

Here’s my plan for the next 24 hours.

POSTING – I’ll be posting, hopefully, around the end of each hour. I’ll include the following information:

Title(s) of Book(s) Read This Hour:
Total Number of Books Read:
Number of Pages Read This Hour:
Total Number of Pages Read:
Time Spent Reading:
Total Time Spent Reading:

I’ll also include my mini-challenge entries for the hour and any other read-a-thon related news. I’ll probably be taking a break during hours 13 and 14 – an old friend will be in town and we’re having dinner – but I’ll try and be a faithful poster every other hour.

FOOD & DRINK – I’ve got Dr. Pepper and hot chocolate stashed for caffeine jolts (I don’t drink coffee), and Hot Tamales, Milk Duds, string cheese, and fruit stashed for the munchies.

READING LOCATIONS - I’ve got a number of locations ready for reading. The first part of the day will take place in bed. Then, I’ll probably move out to the living room. I also outfitted the guest room, so I won’t disturb my husband whilst I’m reading away all night.

CONTINGENCIES - I’ve got the ebook version of Emma uploaded on my phone in case I get caught somewhere without a book, and I’ve got How I Live Now on audio in case I have to drive somewhere or just need a break. Also, I live right across the street from a Borders, so I can always go there if I run out of reading material.  :)

So, I’m all prepared. Let’s get to it. My first selection of the day is An Abundance of Katherines, by John Green. I’m really looking forward to it. Hopefully I’ve woken up and started reading it.

Happy Reading!

You have a huge reading list today, but good books. Coraline and Bleak House seem like they would be fun.

Good luck reading today and don’t end up like this… http://www.ahajokes.com/crt579.html

Good luck Jessica! You’re so organized, it sounds like it’ll be a fun day.

And I’m jealous about the Borders across the street. :-)
