Good review Jessica. I enjoyed this book but I don't know if I would ever feel the need to read it again.

I was going to say the exact same thing Fyrefly did! I figured that she was doing that intentionally, and that ultimately the reader couldn't know how much of Vida Winter's tale had been fictionalized - even if she was telling the truth at last.

Anyway, I'm glad you enjoyed the book :)

I listened to this over winter break a few years ago, and loved it - perfectly atmospheric to sit inside on a cold winter's day and knit.

I think I rationalized the omniscient narrator problem by figuring that since Vida Winter is an author, and storyteller, and liar by trade, she wouldn't be satisfied telling her life's story and leaving holes limited by her own knowledge, so the parts she didn't actually know, she filled in.
