Today’s multi-part meme:
1. Do you have a favorite author?
2. Have you read everything he or she has written?
3. Did you LIKE everything?
4. How about a least favorite author?
5. An author you wanted to like, but didn’t?
Favorite Author
(1) Is it really possible for any book lover to choose just ONE favorite author? I can’t. Really. So, I’m going to give you the current top five: Jane Austen, Roald Dahl, Ian McEwan, John Green, and John Steinbeck. Oh. Even making that list was hard.
(2) I haven’t read anywhere close to everything by Jane Austen, Ian McEwan, or John Steinbeck. I have read everything by John Green and most everything by Roald Dahl.
(3) Yeah. I think I did like everything (at least so far) by these authors. That’s why they’re favorites, right? Oh, wait. I didn’t really like Tortilla Flat by John Steinbeck.
Least Favorite Author
(4) I have problems choosing a least favorite author for very different reasons than I have problems choosing a favorite author. Mostly because if I hate a book by an author I usually won’t read another book by him/her. Also, I think most authors deserve to avoid such categorization because one person’s least favorite author is another person’s favorite author. I do have to say though, I did particularly despise the one book I read by Laura Schlessinger.
Author I Wanted To Like, But Didn’t
(5) I can’t think of one off of the top of my head. I did want to like Neil Gaiman more than I do but that isn’t to say I don’t like him or his works.

I think you’re right – most voracious readers can’t name just one favorite.
I haven’t done this meme yet because I can’t think how to pick just a few favorite authors! I’m curious- what was the Laura S. book you tried? I read one of hers about marriage relationships and didn’t like it much at all.
I named one, although I could give a list of others; however, I do have one favorite. Please visit to see my answers.
Unless I read all (or most) of an author’s works, I cannot really name a least favorite author. I would stay away from an author after a bad reading experience.
I coped out and didn’t name any favorite authors. Ian McEwan is a name I haven’t come across on any of the responses I’ve read so far. I can see why he would make the favorites list though. He’s such a good writer. Jane Austen is definitely one of my all-time favorites.
