My Last 21 Books

I thought it would be interesting to see where I obtained my last 21 books – the books I’ve read since April 1st.

The White Darkness, by Geraldine McCaughrean

Okay, the stats:

Purchased – 9

Borrowed – 3

Review Copies – 9

Of the books I purchased, 4 were from Amazon, 4 were from Borders, and 1 was from Barnes and Noble.  Of the books I borrowed, 2 were from my local library, 1 was from a co-worker.  Of the review copies, 2 were from the author, 1 was from the publisher, 2 were for blog tours, 2 were requested from ShelfAwareness, and 2 were unsolicited.

Now, this may look like I get almost half of my books for free.  However, I have been really behind on my review copies of books and have made a concerted effort to catch up in the last couple of months.  I have not received a new review copy of a book for over a month. I principally purchased the books I read. In fact, I plan to head over to Borders today and pick up a copy of Fahrenheit 451.

Where do you get your books?

The library. It fits my budget, if not my love of convenience.

Hooray! Thank you for buying Everyone Is Beautiful! I’m all for libraries (in fact, my mom has a Master’s in Library Science), and I’m happy for readers to get ahold of my books any way they can, but folks who actually buy them get a gold star!
Many thanks, and happy summer!!

I go to the library. Except I looked at my July reading and I only had 11 books from the library. Five were ones I owned, mostly com from bookmooch, and one was borrowed from my mother. I never ever buy books new, full price. If I’m going to buy a book, I get it from Amazon marketplace.

Lately I guess I confess to reading a lot of review copies. But when I catch up I like a good sale at Borders, Wal-Mart, Target.. welll any where books are sold. I like the library too… but I have to be able to pick a book up when I want and not on other terms. But I still love a trip to the library.

I’m definitely a library girl. I rarely buy a book unless I know that I love it (and I only know that if I’ve already read it) and will want to keep it forever.

Great reads! I dont even know if I dare do that on my blog – LOL I would be like wow I buy a lot of books……
It would be like a self intervention…. :)

Have a great day!

95% of my books are purchased, either thru used bookshops, library booksales or used on amazon. I rarely buy brand new. I enjoy the challenge of finding the book used almost as much as reading it, lol. ~ L

I’ve been buying a lot of books lately and I really MUST get back to the library… or stick to the stack on the floor!

I haven’t done the stats but I do a combination of buy, borrow from the library and get review books. Right now I’m going through a lot of review copies so that might seem high if I did the numbers.

Generally, I get mine at Barnes & Noble. I have yet to find a cute little local shop…

That is really interesting to look at how you get your books. I personally borrow most of mine from the library because I don’t have the money to keep up with my reading tastes. I haven’t had many review copies lately since I got too far behind, but on occasion, I buy books on a whim at Borders.

I love these stats! I am going to stealing your idea. I have purchased most of my books, both used and new, and have read a few that are ARCs.

This sounds like an interesting exercise. I may try it as well. (I know I have a lot of library selections in my count) LOL

That’s a great question. I purchase many, and get many from publishers. But what it really shows me is that I need to go to the library more often!

I am a book-buying addict who has recently discovered that the inter-library loan option at the library can help weaken the tweak. I still have to buy books, but I use the library to “test drive” them to make sure I’m going to like them. There’s nothing worse then dropping $14 for a book and learning the cover art has misled you.

I’ve stopped accepting review books, so I’m back to buying and Paperback Swap. My last few months have been very, very heavily focused on ARCs because I so completely overdid the, “Sure, I’ll review a book for you,” thing that I still have a backlog of at least 30-40 of them. I’m really happier reading off my own stacks, browsing the library, buying a little box full on occasion. I’m going back to that.
