The 2010 Pulitzers were announced today. And this year’s winner for fiction is . . .

Tinkers, by Paul Harding
I’ve sadly never heard of this book. It’s Harding’s first novel. Can you imagine winning a Pulitzer for your first book? I’ll definitely be including this one in my next Amazon order!
I’ve also never heard of the two finalists:

Love in Infant Monkeys, by Lydia Millet and In Other Rooms, Other Wonders, Daniyal Mueenuddin
Update: Here’s a link to a Huffington Post article, in which it reports that Paul Harding found out he won the Pulitzer by checking the Pulitzer website! Can you imagine?
Update #2: Check out my review of Tinkers.

They’re all new to me too!
I think everyone is saying, “Tinkers? What’s Tinkers?” :) Interesting.
I have a copy of In Other Rooms, Other Wonders, but I didn’t know it was a finalist. The other two I haven’t heard of.
This must be a hidden pearl. I remember receiving an ARC of this book but must have buried it at the bottom of the pile somewhere.

Matt, you should definitely hold on to that ARC (or I’ll take it off your hands). I’m sure it’ll be worth money someday. It sounds like The New York Times didn’t even get a review copy.
I only just noticed that Harding’s Tinkers won the Pulitzer. I worked occasionally with the editors of the Bellevue Literary Press – which is affiliated with Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan, and publishes literary works related to medicine – this past year, and I’m glad to see that one of their projects was so successful.
