in Challenges,Features,Summations

Here is an abstract of my literary doings in April.

Books Read

The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, by L. Frank Baum – 4/6/2010
When You Reach Me, by Rebecca Stead – 4/7/2010
The Queen of Palmyra, by Minrose Gwin – 4/20/2010
A Step from Heaven, by An Na – 4/21/2010

April Total = 4
Year-to-Date Total = 11

While I didn’t LOVE any of these, my pick of the month is When You Reach Me.

Book Club

Bel Canto, by Ann Patchett; Meeting – 4/15/2010

We had an interesting discussion of Bel Canto. I really loved this book. But not everyone saw it that way. In fact, many people thought the entire book was ruined by the epilogue.

Coming up next month: The Help, by Kathryn Stockett

Challenges

I finished a Newbery winner and a Printz winner this month! Check out my Challenges page for updates anytime.

Reading Deliberately – 2/12 [ends 12/31/2010]

The Pulitzer Project – 9/84
The Printz Project – 6/11 (+4 Honor books)
The Newberry Project – 19/89 (+7 Honor books)

Monthly Highlights

  • I participated in Library Loot for the first time in almost a year!
  • The Pulitzer winners were announced. The winner for fiction was a bit of a surprise.

Thanks to everyone who stopped by my blog this month!

I loved Bel Canto. There aren’t many books with a translator as a protagonist and I really enjoy this one. Bel Canto is the first book I read by Ann Patchett and I really liked what she did with it.
