Here is an abstract of my literary doings in May.
Books Read
Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, by Jonathan Safran Foer – 5/13/2010
Manhood for Amateurs, by Michael Chabon – 5/25/2010
Newspaper Blackout, by Austin Kleon – 5/27/2010
May Total = 3
Year-to-Date Total = 14
All of these are worthy selections, but Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close is pretty close to genius.
Book Club
The Help, by Kathryn Stockett; Meeting – 5/27/2010
Our discussion of The Help centered about race issues, of course. In particular, we discussed at length the controversy about whether a white woman can write credibly about the experiences of black maids. For the most, part, our group enjoyed this book.
Coming up in September after our summer hiatus: Mockingjay, by Suzanne Collins, The Passage, by Justin Cronin, The Queen’s Thief series, by Megan Whalen Turner

I’m glad to hear you liked EL&IC! I just bought it recently, now must find time to get to it….

Jen – I really hope you enjoy EL&IC. It’s one of the few books that has earned five stars from me this year.
