Here is an abstract of my literary doings in July.
Missing May, by Cynthia Rylant (Audio) – 7/10/2010
July Total = 1
Year-to-Date Total = 17
Most pathetic reading month ever. I didn’t even get a single book read! Just the one audio book for me, kids. I started THE PASSAGE; THE FORGOTTEN GARDEN; and EAT, PRAY, LOVE, but I didn’t manage to get very far on any of them. Here’s hoping August is more read-y.
Our book club is on summer hiatus. Here’s what’s coming up in September:
Mockingjay, by Suzanne Collins
The Passage, by Justin Cronin
The Queen’s Thief series, by Megan Whalen Turner
Kind of a pathetic challenge month too:
Reading Deliberately – 4/12 [ends 12/31/2010]
The Pulitzer Project – 9/84
The Printz Project – 7/11 (+4 Honor books)
The Newberry Project – 20/89 (+7 Honor books)
- I’m most excited by my recent post, 10 Literary Concepts Every Reader Should Know, which kicks off a new series I’m starting – Literature 101. Every Wednesday, I’ll post a new “lecture” on literary terms as part of a kind of e-course. Please plan on enrolling!
- The Booker Longlist came out, and I haven’t read any of them. I’m currently ogling ROOM and THE THOUSAND AUTUMNS OF JACOB de ZOET in my Amazon cart.
- July 11, 2010 was the 50th anniversary of the publication of TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD. It’s one of my favorite books of all time.
- I registered The Bluestocking Society for Book Bloggers Appreciation Week. That’s coming up in September!
- I’m in search of new-to-me blogs. Do you have one recommend?
- Finally, I abandoned TODAY I WROTE NOTHING, an absurdist Russian work.
That’s what happened in July. Stay turned for August. And, thanks to everyone who stopped by my blog this month!

Aimee´s last post ..Book Review- The City & the City- by China Mieville
I’m sure August will be a better reading month for you! You’ll discover lots of new blogs during BBAW.
Well The Passage is pretty daunting.
Bluestocking´s last post ..Winter Passage
Aimee – I just read your review. I definitely need to read it if it’s “epic” and “genius.” :)
Kathy – It looks like August will already be more productive – I’m hoping to finish a book tomorrow. And I can’t wait until BBAW!
Bluestocking – Yes, THE PASSAGE is very daunting. It’s also taking its time setting up everything.
So, we’re going to talk about six books at book club in September?? Whose crazy idea was that anyway!!! :) Well, even if it is a little crazy, I can’t wait!
Suey – I’m ultra-excited. I understand the summer break, but I miss it! Can’t wait to see everyone.
