One of the goals I set for this year of Reading Deliberately is to read a new-to-me book by Charles Dickens. I didn’t pick a specific book, but I thought it might be Bleak House. I’ve been wanting to read Bleak House since my sister-in-law recommended it a couple of years ago and since my book club read it and I only got a couple hundred pages in. And just the other day, Suey from It’s All About Books mentioned that it was sitting on her TBR stack. And then there was a Twitter conversation about it. And then Amanda at The Zen Leaf decided to host a Bleak House readalong.
The universe is conspiring to get me to read this book. So, I’m doing the only thing I can do: I’m joining the Bleak House Readalong!
Here’s the schedule if you’d like to join in:
Aug 25 – Chapters 1-7
Sept 1 – Chapters 8-13
Sept 8 – Chapters 14-19
Sept 15 – Chapters 20-25
Sept 22 – Chapters 26-32
Sept 29 – Chapters 33-38
Oct 6 – Chapters 39-46
Oct 13 – Chapters 47-53
Oct 20 – Chapters 54-59
Oct 27 – Chapters 60-67
I’m really looking forward to this. Are you going to read Bleak House with us?

I am terribly ignorant when it comes to classics and I desperately need to read more of them. As much as I’d like to join you on this one Jessica I think I have made too many commitments for reading these next couple of months.
I see that you’re getting an overwhelming response on this one. :)
But yes, I am in, because I happen to have a copy of Bleak House sitting on my shelf, just waiting for this kind of thing. At least, that’s what it told me when I asked it just this morning (um, yeah, I talk to books ;).

The universe is definitely conspiring! I’m looking forward to this read along and hope I can keep up!
Robbie – I understand. BLEAK HOUSE is not a light book. Maybe we can plan a different readalong in a few months.
Unfinishedperson – I’m so glad you’re in! I can’t wait for it to start. (And I talk to books too, sometimes, late a night . . . .)
Suey – Thanks for being part of the conspiring universe. I’m very glad that we’ll be reading this together.
Hey Jessica – good luck with this one but I think I might sit out the read-along. Having read Hard Times at school when I was 11 it sort of put me off Dickens. Although I did listen to Great Expectations last year and really enjoyed it. Maybe I’ll look for an audio version of the book!

So glad you’re joining us, and thanks for spreading the word!
Amanda´s last post ..Sunday Salon – Abandoned Books
Clare – I’ve only read one book by Dickens: OLIVER TWIST. But I read it on my own and I really enjoyed it. I tried to get through BLEAK HOUSE once before and failed. I hope this time to get through it and see if I like another Dickens book. I think the audio version would be extremely long! Let me know if you decide to listen to it.
Amanda – Thanks for hosting. I’m so excited to get started.
I have this book waiting for me and I have been feeling pretty intimidated by it. I would love to participate in the readalong. Is it too late for me to join in?

Nishita – There’s still time! The schedule is above in my post. The first section will be discussed on August 25th. You can sign up here.
Oooh I’m tempted to join in on this, I’ve never read Bleak House but I’ve always wanted to. I just adored the teleseries adaptation of it with Gillian Anderson in it.
Dominique – I hope you decide to join this. I didn’t realize (but should have known) that there are several adaptations. I’ll be watching at least the Gillian Anderson one after I finish the book.
I’m in too–I wanted to read some Dickens this year and this will be incentive to read that monster that I might not have tackled otherwise!
