I Am Not a Serial Killer, by Dan Wells

I Am Not a Serial KillerDan Wells is a local author. And several of my blogging and IRL friends recommended this series. As an added bonus, every book in the series has already been published. With all of this encouragement, I delved in.

John Wayne Cleaver is a sociopath. And a teenager. To keep him from indulging in his psychopathic tendencies, he has imposed a strict regime of rules to follow. Then, his rules and his carefully caged inner-monster are threatened when a serial killer comes to town.

I think John Wayne Cleaver (perfect serial killer name) is a great character. Wells portrays him, at all times, doing things that are consistent with the actions of a sociopath. I thought the plot was really fascinating, until some fantasy got thrown in. Then it lost me a bit. But the climatic scenes are nail-biting and horrifying and intriguing. And, while the fantasy elements did quite speak to me, the writing was good enough to keep me reading.

I Am Not a Serial Killer, by Dan Wells ★★★☆☆

P.S. I am going to see Dan Wells at two upcoming local events, and I’m so excited to meet him.

The fantasy/supernatural thing sort of bothered me too but, like I’ve said before and, like you, I love his writing!

I was all on board until I saw the “fantasy” comment. Weird. But I’m still intrigued enough to add this to my TBR.

Kathy – It was a bit of a page turner.

Jenny – Yep. Great writing. I’m still just really disappointed with the fantasy turn. Maybe that’s a marketing problem?

Bookzilla – I know! Me too. But the writing really is good, so if you can get past the fantasy part, it’s a good read.

Care – It’s definitely not for everyone. Good main character though.

I have this one sitting on my Nook waiting for me to read it. I’ve heard mixed reviews but I think I just might give it a try! Thanks for the review!

Amy – Downloading books is a dangerous thing! I have a whole separate TBR list waiting for me on my Kindle. I hope you enjoy this when you get to it.
