I ♥ books.
Yeah. Obvious, right? Except sometimes you wouldn’t know it from my reviews. I think I’ve gradually turned into a critic instead of a book lover. Now, I don’t want to get into the whole professional book reviewers versus book bloggers debate. Because that isn’t what I mean. What I mean is that I’ve become more focused on what I don’t like about the books I read than the things I do like about them. I rarely “give myself up” to the reading experience these days. So. What to do about this? I’m going to attempt to focus on the things I like. The positive. The delight of words and characters and stories and authors and covers and kisses and twists and turns and prose. We shall see how this affects my reviews. But be warned in advance: I’m going to become more cheerful about books.
I ♥ book events.
So many delightful book-ish and book blog-ish events are coming up in the next little bit. I would like to point out just three for the moment. First, Bloggiesta is being revived by Suey and Danielle, and the next one will be held on March 30, 31, and April 1. You can sign up to participate here. I’ll definitely be participating and hopefully hosting a mini-challenge. I hope you’ll join us!
Next up is a perennial favorite: Dewey’s Read-A-Thon. The spring edition will occur on April 21. So it’s definitely not too soon to start picking out books and snacks.
Finally, Emily from The Alcove has declared March to be Louise Erdrich month. And I was all, okay. I haven’t ever read anything by Ms. Erdrich, but I do have two of her books on my TBR pile. So let them be read! And feel free to join us!
Which upcoming events are you most excited about?

I think we struggle to give ourselves up to a book sometimes because we’re always thinking about our next book or commitment. Focusing on the positive will surely help!
bermudaonion (Kathy)´s last post ..Author event and giveaway: Eleanor Brown
These past few weeks I’ve been struggling to find the good in any books I pick up – and have abandoned three in a row! I’ve just gone and picked a nice little stack of books from my TBR mountain in an effort to rediscover my mojo!
Thanks for the reminder about the readathon dates, I always seem to miss them until it’s too late to participate!

LOL! I think my negativity about books must be rubbing off on you. Maybe we shouldn’t sit next to each other at book club. ;) I’m trying to be more positive about books too but it is NOT easy…for me, anyway.
I’m very excited for the read-a-thon. I had a lot of fun last year.
Thanks for mentioning Louise Erdrich Month! You are awesome :)
And here’s to being positive and excited about books! *raises glass*
Emily´s last post ..Library Love: Little Free Library
Kathy – It’s true! Those pesky and lovely commitments to read books are a double-edged sword.
Clare – I’ve been in a semi-funk lately too. I’m hoping my new resolve will help pull me out. I hope it works for you too, and I’ll see you at the read-a-thon!
Jenny – I don’t think you are too negative. In fact, I think you’re brave to be honest about how you feel. I think I’m worse where I’m vaguely critical about everything. And hooray for the read-a-thon!
Emily – Of course! I’m super excited. I think I’m going to start one of her books today. Either SHADOW TAG or PLAGUE OF DOVES. *cheers*
And here I was trying to be MORE negative…. :)
Thanks for the Bloggiesta shout out! I love your ideas for hosting a challenge, so I’m pretty sure you should plan on it! We’ll be emailing everyone soon.
Suey´s last post ..In Which I Have Another Fan Girl Moment and Also Prove Letter Month Was Worth It
Suey – Ha! I guess we all have our issues. :) And I’m so excited for Bloggiesta. I’ll be watching my inbox…
