Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly bookish list meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.
TOP 10 AUTHORS ON MY AUTO-BUY LIST
These are the authors. The ones that I love. The ones that I will buy their work, no questions asked. Some of these authors are admittedly dead, but that doesn’t change the fact that, should a long lost work be discovered or they published from beyond, I would buy the thing!
1. Markus Zusak (The Book Thief, I Am the Messenger, etc.)
2. Ian McEwan (Atonement, Sweet Tooth, On Chesil Beach, etc.)
3. Jane Austen (Pride & Prejudice, Persuasion, etc.)
4. Sara Zarr (Once Was Lost, How To Save a Life, etc.)
5. John Green (The Fault in Our Stars, Looking for Alaska, etc.)
6. Lauren Groff (Delicate Edible Birds, Arcadia, etc.)
7. Roald Dahl (James and the Giant Peach, “The Way Up to Heaven,” etc.)
8. Shannon Hale (The Goose Girl, Princess Academy, etc.)
9. Louise Fitzhugh (Harriet the Spy, The Long Secret, etc.)
10. Erin Morgenstern (The Night Circus)

I’ve seen John Green on more than one list. I need to read one of his books pronto!
Yes you do! I’d recommend starting with LOOKING FOR ALASKA.
Ian McEwan! *high fives* I wish Jane Austen had completed more novels, she had some promising stuff in her uncompleted pile. Been meaning to read Zusak’s I am the Messenger and yeah, I’m curious to see what Erin Morgenstern writes next ;)
Here’s my TTT
Yay! Another Ian McEwan fan. *high fives back* And, please, PLEASE, read I AM THE MESSENGER. It is completely different from THE BOOK THIEF and is usually my favorite Zusak. (I change my mind from time to time.) :)
Aww I love Roald Dahl! And I’m absolutely OBSESSED with Jane Austen. I’m reading Pride and Prejudice right now and it’s so good! Great list :)
Here’s my Top Ten!
I love Roald Dahl too! And I’m so glad you’re enjoying PRIDE & PREJUDICE. It’s one of my favorite books of all time.
Thank you for reminding me of Marcus Zusak. I adored The Book Thief, but am not aware of any of his other books.
He only has a few others, but they are so good! My favorite (even, usually, above THE BOOK THIEF) is I AM THE MESSENGER. His other three novels were recently published in one volume called UNDERDOGS.
I’ve only heard of a few of these authors but if they make your auto-buy list, they must all be awesome. I do love that you haev Roald Dahl on your list! I havet read James and the Giant Peach in AGES!
I haven’t read JAMES AND THE GIANT peach in years either. Maybe I need to read it today…
Hmmm, I haven’t even heard of some of those authors, but I like you put Jane Austen up there!
I love that TTT is all about discovering!
I almost put Jane Austen on my list, but I decided that I couldn’t really buy anymore of her books since I already own them all.
I own them all too, but if she decides to publish something from the grave, I’ll definitely buy it! :)
Ahhh, such a good list! Our picks don’t overlap, but that’s because I limited myself (and I’m unimaginative). Hale & Zusak should have been on my list, no question. Lovely choices. Pardon me while I sigh over books I love. *grin*
I quite liked your list. And Neil Gaiman and Diana Peterfreund both came very close to making mine. I heart both Hale and Zusak. Feel free to sigh away! :)
I loved the Book Thief but haven’t read I Am the Messenger…yet! I put a few on my list that can’t actually write any more books too, as they have already passed away. You have quite a few that I’ve been meaning to get around to: The Night Circus, Fault in Our Stars (I read Looking for Alaska), and a few others.
Ooh. They are all so lovely. But I AM THE MESSENGER is fabulous.
Markus all the way, baby! ;-) Sarah Zarr too.
What, no John Green on your list? :)
Austen, Zusak, and Morgenstern, oh my! Great authors — the last two because of their fantastic worldbuilding. Excellent list, madam!
Here’s my TTT for the week. Happy reading!
Thank you! This list was an easy one to put together. I just wish they would all hurry up and write more! (Well, we’ll give Jane a little pass on that one.)
It was a pretty easy list for me too. I considered putting Austen on there, but it seemed to make more sense to put live ones on the list. :) Austen’s still one of my favorites, though.
No fair putting DEAD authors on your list! :)
I know; I know. But I couldn’t help it!
John Green is on my list and Sara Zarr almost was, but since I haven’t gotten around to reading How to Save a Life or What we Lost, I decided I’d better read those before I add her to my “auto-buy list.”
John Green is amazing. I love all four of Sara Zarr’s books published so far, but I totally understand reading several before adding an author to the auto-buy list. I’m so excited to read the two she has coming out this year, THE LUCY VARIATIONS and WHAT WE LOST.
