Princess Academy: The Forgotten Sisters, by Shannon Hale
I received this book for free from the publisher via NetGalley. All content and opinions are my own.
I have mentioned before that I am a bit of a Shannon Hale fangirl. She’s a local author who is active in our community, so we’ve met each other several times. I have read most everything she has published, and my clear favorites are the first two Princess Academy books: Princess Academy and Palace of Stone. A third Princess Academy book is something I never even hoped to get to read. But The Forgotten Sisters is here, and it was a lovely conclusion to Miri’s story.
In this third book, Miri and the other ladies of the princess are finally heading back to Mount Eskel. But just as she is about to leave, Miri is summoned by the king. She is asked/ordered to be the tutor for a small princess academy for three distant cousins of the king who are needed to marry the king of a neighboring kingdom to prevent war. Miri heads to the swamp to do her duty and faces many challenges.
The point of education is to learn other ways too. Don’t just assume that all you know is right. Learn more and then choose.
I think Miri is one of my favorite characters of all time. She’s smart and plucky and makes a lot of mistakes. You can’t help but root for her. I loved the three girls she tutors. I love the development of the story with Peder. And I loved the twisting and extremely satisfying plot. I can’t wait to read all three books to my daughter. Go forth and read this. It’s available today.
